Greetings Lancer Families,
I am communicating with you today to inform you that masks will become mandatory starting Monday, December 13, 2021. This means that anyone in an Edinburgh Community School Corporation building or bus will be required to wear a mask. We did not come to this decision easily.
During the past week the number of positive cases has steadily risen. This has resulted in a large number of students being quarantined. The State Department of Health says that we do not have to quarantine if everyone is wearing a mask. We believe that the spike in cases and quarantined students is temporary. This change will enable us to keep healthy children in school. We plan to monitor this situation closely and once our numbers return to what the average has been throughout this school year, we plan to return to masks being optional.
We realize that many of you will not be fans of this policy change. Frankly, neither are we, but we must take the necessary steps to keep our students in school. We appreciate your support as we try to navigate through these challenging times. We pledge to return to masks optional as soon as we believe it is safe to do so. We are hoping cases will begin to dwindle after the holiday break and we will be able to return to masks optional as soon as the end of January. We will keep you updated as we journey through this together.
