eLearning Day
eLearning Plan for the Edinburgh Community School Corporation – 2019-20 SY

The Edinburgh Community School Corporation will begin using eLearning Days when school is cancelled due to inclement weather during the 2019-20 School Year.

During the 2018-19 School Year, we missed two days of school due to inclement weather. This required us to use two Snow Make-Up Days:

o Monday, March 11, 2019 (first day of spring break)
     o Friday, April 19, 2019 (Good Friday)

We will schedule a “dry run” or practice day on Wednesday, September 25, 2019. On that date, students will not attend school in a regular classroom. They will be taught by their teachers remotely, electronically. Teachers, since this is a practice eLearning Day, will be present at school. Half of their day will involve teaching their students electronically. The other half will be professional development by building. As with all eLearning Days, our technology office will be open from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm.
Students without internet access at home will be able to use a small technology lab in the Edinburgh High School/Middle School library/media center from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm.

We will never use any more than three eLearning Days consecutively and we will never use more than a total of five eLearning Days in any one school year. All students will have three school days in which to complete their assigned work. Student attendance will be taken when their assignments are received by their teachers. This will be subject to the 3 school day submission standard.

When school is cancelled due to inclement weather, every Edinburgh student and staff member will be contacted using School Messenger. The message will remind students and staff that this will be an “eLearning Day.”

Teachers will be encouraged to use a Blended approach to teaching and learning. A majority of assigned work should be electronic (combining on-line and device-based activities). Students may also be required to complete such non-electronic assignments as completing a reading assignment, completing work sheets, and completing a project that uses resources found at home, etc.

This will be a new experience for every Edinburgh Community Schools’ teacher and student. We will learn a lot during our first year using eLearning. We ask that teachers, students, and parents share suggestions or questions with myself or any of our committee members.

Thank you for your patience as we transition into an instructional method that has been used by the vast majority of school corporations in the state of Indiana during the past seven school years.
