21st Century Scholars Program

Are you a sixth, seventh, or eighth grade student?

Are you interested in going to college or obtaining training following high school?

If the answer is YES, then keep reading!!

It sounds too good to be true: four years of tuition for any Indiana public or private college/university, along with the support necessary to be successful in high school and beyond.  But it is true and available today for Edinburgh Middle School students.

21st Century Scholars is a wonderful program that many Edinburgh students participate in, but even more are eligible and never bother to take part.  Students are only eligible to sign up while in sixth, seventh, or eighth grade.  The enrollment form is simple and very easy to complete.

Twenty-first Century Scholars Pledge

In order to enroll in the program, students are asked to make the following pledge:

  • I will graduate with an Indiana High School Diploma from a charter school, freeway or other Indiana school recognized by the Indiana Department of Education.
  • I will achieve a cumulative high school GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • I will not use illegal drugs or alcohol, or commit a crime.
  • I will apply for admission to an eligible Indiana college, university or proprietary school as a high school senior.
  • I will apply on time for state and federal financial aid.

After enrollment, families receive a variety of support from 21st Century Scholars, including tutoring, mentoring, parent activities, and college visits.  This support continues on throughout high school and into college.  Most of these students will also qualify for additional scholarships and grants.

21st Century Scholars will pay 100% of tuition at a public university such as IU, Purdue, Ball State, Indiana State, Vincennes, USI, IUPUI, or IVY Tech.  At a private college or university (i. e. Franklin or Butler), 21st Century Scholars will pay the amount equivalent to the public school tuition, and then most private colleges will cover the difference.  The only catch to this is that it must be a college or university in Indiana. Considering that Indiana has over 35 different colleges, each student has one that will meet his or her needs!

Many parents and students believe 21st Century Scholars is only a program for top students.  This is not that case.  In fact, students must only maintain a ā€œCā€ average to be a scholar.  Another common question is qualifications to participate. In order to qualify for 21st Century Scholars, a student must:

  1. Be a resident of Indiana as both an applicant and an award recipient (determined by residency of parent/legal guardian) and a U.S. Citizen.
  2. Be a student in the 6th, 7th, or 8th grade.
  3. Meet program income guidelines or be in foster care.
  4. Attend a charter school, freeway school or other Indiana school recognized by the Indiana Department of Education.
  5. Make a commitment to fulfill the Scholars Program.
